Thai time - it just flies!

Every weekend Maya takes the boys to do Tae Kwon Do. There is a serious lack of organised sport for them and not enough male role models or male volunteers who come here for long enough to get sports teams organised or do "boy" things. The result can unfortunately be that some of the boys will inevitably end up in trouble when they grow up. Many come from alcoholic, abusive homes and there is also a big problem locally with methamphetamines.

So, Maya is trying to get more and more of the boys to keep up their martial arts, which will provide them with exercise and discipline.  Needless to say, Tom was keen to shadow his new friend, Gean, and went along to give it a go.

Even though it was Sunday, I was back in the craft factory, (or what I now refer to as the “sweat shop” because it is SO hot! I continued cutting out the bags and pencil cases that have been ordered and the kids helped Barbara do a stock take. The products she is making out of rice bags are wonderful, and I will be bringing some home with me to help with my fundraising this year.

Things are starting to intensify as everyone anticipates the arrival of the bike riders on the 23rd. They set off tomorrow, all going well and in spite of the increased tensions in Bangkok as anti-government protesters block up the city. They are trying to disrupt the elections on 2 February which is close to when we will be due to fly out. The longer these protests continue, the more likely it will be that there will be some dramatic intervention by the military. Let's hope not.

Sunday night, Hannah and Meg set up their One Direction DVD in the big hall and were amazed at the hysterical girls and some boys that flocked to watch with them.  Is there no corner of the globe that 1D fever has not hit?

Monday morning and all the children were back at school and BTN was quiet again.

Hannah and Meg were assigned the task this morning of preparing the preschool children for their performance of 5 songs for the riders' concert on the 23rd. The girls are in charge of props, choreography and costumes and we went out to a wonderful fabric shop to buy coloured netting and ribbons.

The local area here is very scenic and I snapped a few shots this morning on my walk. The rest of the day was extremely hot..as usual!  Even a quick dip at the beach did nothing to cool us off.

  1. Hey Nickie, great to catch up your activities. Pictures tell a thousand words (say no more!). With the second ride just started, Chris was in eager anticipation, and with Day 1 over, expect he'll be exhilerated - and exhausted. Keep up the excellet comms.
